Beethoven wrote his music for a play about a rebellious Roman General Corolianus who wages a war against all of Rome. The strong melody is Corolianus. The gentle second melody represent his mother, who begs Corolianus to make peace instead of war. Do you think Beethoven's two melodies show this contrast?
